Why doctor visits feel so big to little kids
Strange room, cold tools, a grown-up they don't know, and sometimes a shot. It makes sense that many kids dread checkups. Feeling more in control and knowing what to expect are two of the things that tend to help most, and a story is a gentle way to give them both.
How the story works
Pick Doctor visits as the villain when you build the book. Your child's hero walks in feeling nervous, uses their superpower to stay brave, and walks out a winner. It turns "I'm scared of the doctor" into "I'm the kind of kid who's brave at the doctor."
Tips for the next appointment
- Read it the week before and again the morning of.
- Bring the hero along. Remind them of their power in the waiting room: "Super strength mode!"
- Be honest and short. Kids handle "it'll pinch for a second" better than surprises.
- Celebrate after. Read the book together that night and talk about what they did.
This book is meant to encourage and comfort. It isn't medical advice, and your child's doctor is always the best person to talk to about a specific worry.
